These study methods will help!
Whether you have recently started high school in year 7 or are about to complete it in year 11, striving towards academic success is a want. As exam season approaches, many students may find themselves overly stressed or struggling to find a study method that awards you satisfactory grades.
There is a four letter word that places fear into most students; EXAM! Trying to find the best way to approach these is difficult without guidance.
So, from an interview with a year 11 student herself, here are the answers:
What is the best way to revise the sciences?
Exam style questions allow you to apply your knowledge and understand what your examiners are looking for as you mark it. Often for science, the exam questions are repeated throughout the year so you could get lucky.
How do you revise English and practise for essays?
For English Literature, planning essays is most effective as well as physically writing your essays. To revise quotes, it was recommended to make flashcards on the quotes and their meanings. As for English language, practice questions are advised.
How did you develop your study methods?
It was a matter of trial and error. Since old methods didn’t mean getting the maximum grades achievable, changing the method was necessary.
How long did it take for you to develop your most efficient method for studying?
In this case it took roughly a year. With minimal studying in year 9, revising properly for topic tests in year 10 and fully revising at the beginning of year 11 and all throughout so far, it allowed her to relax when necessary and be able to achieve high grades for her GCSE.
How do you organise your schedule and find time to revise?
Revising early so you don’t cram is at the top of this list and revising in small, effective chunks instead of long, tedious hours. And never dedicating a full day to revision allows you to have time to relax as well as work for your grades.
Remember, balance is key and with the help of these methods, you should find it much easier.
